About Mouth Rat
Florida based Mouth Rat rocks some fast punk, hardcore and a little reggae / ska based tunes and is known for making acoustic appearances. With David's song writing skills on vocals and guitar, Beejay lays down dynamic percussion to keep the songs moving.
Mouth Rat was started out of Tampa / Clearwater Florida though the band name Mouth Rat comes from the city Boca Raton, FL. It was listed on early maps as "Boca Ratones". The literal translation of "Boca Raton" is "Mouse Mouth" ("rat" in Spanish is "rata"). Boca (or mouth) was (and still is) used to describe an inlet and ratón (literally mouse) was used by Spanish sailors to describe rocks that gnawed at a ship's cable.

History
2009
At the beginning of 2009, Beejay's hand was about healed as he attended the NAMM show in Anaheim. By the end of January 2009, practing had started again and the songs were still sounding good after not playing for a few months. Staring in February, recording started for a 4 song demo. After finishing recording and mixing, the band name "Mouth Rat" was thought up during dinner at a Denny's Restaurant after band practice one night. Before chosing a name for the demo and finalizing it, unexpectedly Shawn dissapears leaving no sign of returning. Mike, David and Beejay give it a few weeks of waiting and trying to contact Shawn and finally decide to move on... They're dropping like turds in a Taco Bell bathroom. Mike decided to become a pirate, so he left the band and is somewhere in Somalia now. Best wishes to Mike and all his pillaging.
2008
Shawn and David had been playing guitar together for months and trying to find the right drummer. Beejay saw an ad for a drummer titled - "It's My Job to Keep Punk Rock Elite", then called and chatted with Shawn for about a half-hour. The first practice was held at a room at USF (University of Florida) which went very well. With a few practices down, it was time to search for a bass player, which Beejay brought out his friend Mike, who jams music with Beejay from time to time. Mike plays lefty guitar, so he borrowed Shawn's right-handed Danelectro sparkley Bass and flipped it over. Mike worked out great on bass and went on to purchase his own bass equipment. By the end of 2008, there were a hand-full of songs going and before the end-of-the-year holiday season Beejay had a broken hand which put him out of drumming for a few weeks.
